Copyediting can be trying, involved and difficult for sensitive writers. It is imperative that we speak candidly and honestly about the work in order to produce the most informative written works while maintaining the integrity of the piece as it was intended to be written. Copyediting includes, simple edits, spelling errors, writing suggestions, punctuation and grammar corrections, style consistency, capitalization, a list of items that may require permissions, removal of offensive or biased writings and abbreviations where needed and agreed upon. Copyediting brings an overall uniform standard to your writing. Copyediting can be as involved as you would like for it to be. Services can include, verification of data and cross-references, review of used artwork, charts and tables to ensure that they are used to accurately reflect the text within the work as intended. Example:           We as teachers, need too make sure we lead by examples..
Suggestion: (Consider restructuring the sentence and/or correcting extra punctuation and typos?)
Consider: We as teachers, need to make sure we lead by example.
As teachers, our leadership is our example.
As teachers, leadership is our example.
As teachers, our best example is our own leadership.

When do I need Proofreading? Proofreading is required as one of your last steps prior to having a printer actually print or make your book available electronically. It is wise to go over your work with a fine toothed comb prior to signing off on an official publication. Proofreading is done after your work has been written, read, edited, edited again and formatted. The purpose of proofreading is to ensure your written work will be duplicated for production exactly how you intend it. We are looking for discrepancies between the manuscript as presented to the printer or electronic publishing service and the proof for signature as it is presented to you for a final sign off. Proofreading is an actual copy over copy check and tit for tat for each word, picture or artwork before it is duplicated for mass production. Proofreading can also be a read verbal audit against printed text). At this phase we are no longer looking for grammatical errors and typos, however issues have been saved because one final visual was able to catch a single typo. A final sign off before publishing can save you embarrassment and costly corrections for future editions of your work.

Example:        As submitted to print vendor:
As teachers, our best example is our own leadership.
                            As returned for approval:
As teacher’s our best example is leadership.
As caught, corrected and resubmitted to print vendor:
Print house: Please remove the possession from teacher, add a comma and include
the word own before leadership to read as follows.)
As teachers, our best example is our own leadership.
